About Edinburgh Castle Hotel

The Edinburgh Castle – the Edi Castle to locals – is a pub at 681 Sydney Road in Brunswick, open seven days from midday. It is known for free local live music, a long craft beer list and gastro pub food, and it takes functions of every size, from meetings to dress-up parties, without charging room hire. There are three bookable areas. The Saloon Bar is the main indoor room, with its own private bar, the option to play your own music and space for a small live set-up; it holds 50 seated or 90 standing. Out the back, the beer garden is set with picnic tables and a stage, and takes up to 200 (100 seated); it can be split for smaller groups, and parties of 80 or more can have it to themselves, though it closes at 10pm for the neighbours. For smaller groups, the Cowgirl Corner – a corner of the main bar room – suits family occasions and sit-down meals for up to 40. Food is either shared grazing platters or a la carte. Canapés are ordered by the piece – crostini, croquettes, sliders, dumplings, tofu and more – and platters range from party pies and spring rolls to antipasto and dessert boards, with pub classics and pizzas also on offer and dietary options throughout. Drinks run on a bar tab: a basic tab, a premium tab with extra wines and optional spirits, or an open tab across the whole list. Each space carries a minimum spend and a deposit that comes off your food or bar bill.

Food

Choose shared grazing platters or a la carte. Canapés are priced from $4 to $6 a piece, including kingfish crudo, dumplings, gyoza, crostini, croquettes, fried chicken and sliders. Platters serve 10 to 12, from a $80 party platter to a $120 antipasto board, plus dessert platters. Pub meals such as parmas, pies, fish and chips and burgers, and pizzas with gluten-free bases and vegan cheese, are also available, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

Beverages

Functions run on a bar tab rather than a per-head package. Frequently asked questions

How many guests can The Edinburgh Castle host?

The back beer garden takes up to 200 people, or 100 seated. The Saloon Bar holds 50 seated or 90 standing, and the Cowgirl Corner suits up to 40.

Is there a room hire fee?

No. Each space has a minimum spend on food and drinks instead. The Cowgirl Corner starts at $250 Sunday to Thursday, the Saloon Bar at $1,000, and the beer garden at $500 for 20 to 50 guests.

Can we have the beer garden to ourselves?

Yes, once your group reaches 80 guests the back beer garden can be yours alone, with a $1,000 minimum spend for 80 to 100 guests. The garden closes at 10pm, after which guests can move inside.

Can we play our own music?

In the Saloon Bar you can play your own music and set up a small live act. Amplified sound across the venue has to finish by 11pm.
