Sossy and Canvas

About Sossy and Canvas

Sossy and Canvas is the gallery and studio of abstract painter Sossy Kinderman, set in the Elsternwick village strip at 475 Glen Huntly Rd. Her large oil works, many inspired by Judaica, line the walls, and the space doubles as a workshop where she runs classes and private paint parties. Every session is guided by Sossy herself, who demonstrates each step and then moves around the room, brush in hand, helping each painter add some flair. Groups choose from three party styles. The abstract option has guests painting in acrylics at easels and bar-height tables, from a curated design or a theme you suggest. The textured option uses a thick sculpting medium, spread on like cake icing, finished with metallic paints. The graffiti option begins indoors with an abstract base and moves to the covered area behind the gallery for the spray-paint layers. Each package covers three hours of venue hire with 60 to 80 minutes of guided painting, a 40 x 50cm deep-edge canvas per guest or one large shared piece, all materials, and seasonal flowers and decor from the gallery. Packages are priced by group size, from five guests through to 35, which is the gallery's capacity. Adult parties are BYO wine and champagne, with flutes and wine glasses provided, for guests 18 and over. Food can be added through the gallery's catering, either grazing boards with cheese, gravlax and canapés or an Asian spread of sushi, grilled dishes and rice paper rolls. Sossy also runs child and teen birthday paint parties, and mixed family groups from age eight can take part in the textured workshops.
