About Essendon Bowls Club
Essendon Bowls Club dates back to 1885 and plays on two greens at Windy Hill, in Essendon's sports precinct on Raleigh Street. It runs pennant teams across Saturday, midweek and night competitions, but the club is just as keen on social players and visitors, and it is open to anyone who wants to bowl, have a drink or hire the rooms. Coaching is offered to new and experienced bowlers alike. Barefoot bowls is the club's main offer for groups. It suits work parties, corporate events, team-building days and get-togethers with friends or family, and it can be added to any function booked at the club. All equipment is supplied, nobody needs to have bowled before, and the club says players of any age can be on the green and rolling quickly. For community teams there is also an introductory social competition held over four Wednesday evenings, and social bowls on Saturday afternoons in the off-season while the greens stay open. The function room is a spacious, older-style space that can be set up however the host likes, with seating for 100 people or more. It is used for birthdays, family celebrations, engagements, christenings, weddings, sports presentations, staff parties and corporate events. Hirers have a fully licensed and well-stocked bar with the option of running a tab, a full commercial kitchen that can be used by the host or an outside caterer, BBQs, a sound system and audio-visual equipment, an outdoor deck and both off-street and on-street parking. The club also hosts monthly Sunday afternoon live music, with tickets booked ahead.

My fiance and I held our engagement party at the Essendon Bowls Club. The venue comfortably hosted about 170 of our guests! The team here are absolutely incredible. At every point, they were willing and able to help us…
