About The Curium Experience
The Curium Experience is a single-venue escape game in a Collingwood warehouse on Cromwell Street, and it is built around one big mission rather than a row of small rooms. Groups start in the plush clubrooms of a fictional society, are sent through a portal device known as The Machine, and land in Extraction: a job to steal an artefact from a guarded lab, played out across several levels. Fans of spy films and science fiction will feel at home. The design leans on sets, lighting, sound and special effects, with puzzles that make sense inside the story and a moderate difficulty that suits first-timers. The game itself runs 50 to 70 minutes, but plan on about 90 once the briefing, team photo and debrief are counted. It is more physical than most escape rooms, so players should be comfortable climbing stairs and crawling through a tunnel about a metre high; most physical parts can be skipped on request, though the stairs can't, and the game isn't wheelchair accessible. Doors are never locked, every room has an emergency exit, and a dedicated game master follows each team on CCTV. Teams take two to seven players, and four is the sweet spot. Groups of eight or more are split into several teams that begin 30 minutes apart, which turns a birthday, bucks or hens day or a work outing into a contest on time and score. Afterwards, everyone gathers in the licensed Recovery Lounge for packaged drinks and snacks while the game master runs through how each team went. Children under eight can't play, and players aged 8 to 16 need two adults in their team.

Frequently asked questions
How much does The Curium Experience cost?
Groups of eight or more pay $49 a person and are split into several teams. Smaller teams pay from $54 a person for six players up to $74 a person for two on Wednesday to Friday, with higher prices on weekends and public holidays.
How does it work for a large group?
Each game takes up to seven players, so a bigger group is split into teams that start 30 minutes apart, for example three teams starting at 5pm, 5:30pm and 6pm. Teams compete on time and score and can wait for each other in the bar area.
How physical is the game?
It is more active than most escape rooms. You will need to manage stairs and crawl through a tunnel about one metre high, though most physical elements can be bypassed case by case, except the stairs. The game is not wheelchair accessible.
Is there an age limit?
Children under eight are not allowed. Players aged 8 to 16 can take part if at least two responsible adults are in the game with them, and players 16 and over can play on their own. The puzzles are designed with adults in mind.
Can we have a drink afterwards, and how do we get there?
Yes, the licensed Recovery Lounge serves soft drinks, beer and pre-mixed drinks with a small range of snacks. North Richmond station, the Hoddle Street and Victoria Street tram stop (routes 12 and 109) and several bus routes are nearby, and there is a small car park on site.
