About Tim the DJ

Tim the DJ is a Melbourne DJ who combines his decks with a saxophone. He mixes his transitions live rather than running a fixed playlist, reads the room as the night goes, and comes out from behind the booth to play sax solos on the dance floor – a combination that also makes for lively photos. Before turning to entertainment full time he worked in law, and he brings the same organised approach to planning. He works alone rather than through an agency, so couples and event organisers deal with Tim directly from the first enquiry to the last song. Each booking gets a personal online planning page where you list the genres you love, must-play and do-not-play songs, and the timing of formalities, and he firms up the schedule with you in the week before. His sets range across disco, 90s and 00s, R&B, pub rock and house, and he will drop guest requests into the mix if you want him to – or politely decline one that would empty the floor. For weddings there are three packages. Silver covers up to five hours of DJing with a sound system, wireless microphone and a tailored music selection. Gold adds live sax. Platinum stretches to eight hours and adds ceremony music, a battery PA for outdoor ceremonies, a second setup for canapés, dance-floor lighting, a basic MC service and 30 minutes of overtime on request. Outside weddings he plays corporate parties, gala nights, EOFY and Christmas functions, product launches, school formals and university balls, bringing wireless microphones for presenters and lighting to suit the room.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Tim the DJ cost?

Wedding reception packages start at $3,490 including GST for up to five hours of DJing (Silver). Gold adds live saxophone and Platinum extends to eight hours with ceremony music and extras. A $500 deposit secures the date.

Can Tim MC our wedding?

Yes. A basic MC service guiding guests through the formalities is available for an extra fee and is already part of the Platinum package. He can't be booked for sax or MC alone, as his minimum spend matches the Silver package.

What does he need from the venue?

A setup area of about 2 x 3 metres beside the dance floor, one dedicated standard power point within 10 metres, and cover from sun and rain if he is outdoors. He arrives an hour early to set up at no charge.

Will he take song requests from guests?

Yes, if you are happy for him to. Because he mixes live he can fit requests into the set, and he is comfortable turning down a request that would not suit your dance floor.

Can he play past our finish time?

Packages finish at 11pm, and overtime is available if the venue agrees. It is charged at $500 per hour and must be paid on the night before the extra time begins.
