Fedora Productions is a Melbourne mobile DJ business that turns up with everything a dance floor needs. Each DJ package covers five hours of music, and the crew sets up before guests arrive and packs down afterwards without adding to the bill. The entry Party DJ package includes the DJ, a four-way active speaker system, a microphone, two sound-activated motion lights, a smoke machine and a library of more than 15,000 songs spanning every era. For bigger rooms, the Pro DJ package adds sub-woofers and a lighting rig the DJ controls live to match the music, rather than lights that flash at random. The Bespoke DJ package stretches to six hours with two wireless microphones, a custom lighting show and a choice of effects. Extras such as an MC, venue uplighting and individual effect lights can be added to any booking. The team plays birthdays, engagements, corporate functions, Christmas parties, graduations, school formals and wedding receptions. For weddings, couples pick songs for the key moments – the entrance, first dance, opening of the dance floor and final farewell – and can list tracks to leave out. Fedora also helps with any other technical needs on the day. The business also runs live event production, with audio, lighting, staging and backline for concerts and festivals, so its DJs work with professional-grade gear that is tested and tagged under Victorian WorkSafe rules. Extra time is $55 per 30 minutes or $110 per hour, a professional MC adds $880 and uplighting adds $600. Prices include GST and apply to metropolitan Melbourne, and a $300 deposit secures the date.

How long does a Fedora Productions DJ package run?
The Party DJ and Pro DJ packages include five hours of DJ time and the Bespoke DJ package includes six. Extra time can be added in 30-minute blocks, and set-up and pack-down are not counted against your hours.
What equipment comes with the Party DJ package?
The $770 Party DJ package includes the DJ, a four-way active sound system, a microphone, two sound-activated motion lights, a smoke machine and a track collection of more than 15,000 songs.
What does the venue need to provide for the DJ?
Fedora asks for a table for the DJ set-up, which the crew dresses, plus 240V power from two separate outlets close to the equipment. Check with your venue that a smoke machine is allowed.
Can we choose the songs for our wedding?
Yes. Couples choose the music for the main moments, including the entrance, first dance, the song that opens the dance floor and the final farewell, and can also give a list of songs the DJ should not play.
Is a deposit needed to secure a date?
A $300 deposit holds the booking, and the remaining balance is usually paid in the week before the event, occasionally on the night itself. Fedora suggests booking about two to three months ahead for a birthday or wedding.
