About Weddings by the Beard
Weddings by the Beard is Melbourne marriage celebrant Lachlan Grisold, a professional public speaker of more than eight years and a self-described former theatre kid. His ceremonies are written fresh for every couple – nothing is lifted from a previous wedding – and he aims to keep everyone comfortable at the front, whether there are 10 guests or 200. Once you are booked, he sends a ceremony builder booklet, a vow pack and a couples questionnaire. You then meet in person or online to plan the wedding party, entrances, acknowledgements, music and readings, any rituals, how you met, the vows, the rings and the exit. Lachlan writes the script over the following weeks and you polish it together before the day. The full ceremony package runs 20 to 30 minutes or more and covers all dealings with Births, Deaths and Marriages, a Bose S1 Bluetooth PA with a Sennheiser microphone, printed vow cards, running the music, and lodging and posting your proof of marriage certificate. For couples who want to keep it simple, a legals-only wedding needs only the two of you, two witnesses and two short meetings. He writes inclusive ceremonies in neutral, welcoming language, and has married LGBTQIA+ couples and written neurodivergent-friendly and disability-friendly weddings. He can also stay on as MC, managing introductions, speeches, cake cutting, dietary requirements and vendor liaison so you can enjoy the night.

How far will Weddings by the Beard travel?

What does a legals-only wedding involve?
It is a short legal ceremony using the minimum required words, with one paperwork meeting in person or online, all BDM contact handled by Lachlan, and your proof of marriage certificate lodged and posted to you.
Can he MC our reception too?
Yes. As MC he helps with family photos after the ceremony, introduces the couple and the speeches, makes announcements for the cake and first dance, manages dietaries and liaises with your coordinator and vendors.
