About Sam Lavery: The Celebrant
Sam Lavery is a full-time marriage celebrant and MC based in Melbourne, with more than 500 weddings behind him. Before celebrancy he did stand-up comedy and podcasting, performing at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and that shows in ceremonies that are relaxed, personal and genuinely funny without turning into a roast. He works in three steps. First comes a relaxed initial chat where he explains the process and answers your questions. Once you book, he takes care of the legal paperwork and writes a personalised ceremony that tells your story as though he has known you for years. Then he marries you on the day. Every couple gets his vow-writing guide, and he is happy to bounce ideas around. Sam conducts everything from five-person elopements to 500-guest weddings, plus legals-only ceremonies with two witnesses, and he has married many same-sex couples. His battery-powered PA can be used anywhere and can also play your ceremony music. Many couples book him as MC for the reception too, keeping the night on track. A roaming video guestbook is available as an add-on for $499 including GST: he films guests' messages during cocktail hour with a handheld microphone and delivers an edited compilation within 24 hours. Ceremony fees are quoted once he knows your date, time, location and whether you want an MC.

Why are prices not on the website?
Each quote depends on the time, date, location and whether you add MC services, so Sam sends a quote once he has those details from your enquiry.
Can we have a legals-only wedding?
Yes. Legals-only ceremonies are common and can take place almost anywhere, needing just the two of you, Sam and two witnesses.
What is the roaming video guestbook?
During cocktail hour Sam moves around with a camera and handheld microphone recording messages from guests, then delivers an edited compilation within 24 hours for $499 including GST.
