About The Garden @ Grays Inn Wollombi
Grays Inn is a restored sandstone building from the 1800s on Wollombi Road, right in the centre of the old village of Wollombi in the Hunter. Out the back sits The Garden, a landscaped space the owners hire out for private functions, weddings and community events. The inn also has three guest rooms and SIP Wollombi Village, a tasting room and bottle shop for small-batch Hunter wine, spirits, beer and cider, so a few guests can stay on the property. Local stonemasons, landscapers and carpenters rebuilt The Garden using sandstone from a nearby quarry and convict-cut blocks from an old Wollombi property. A curved sandstone circle encloses a lawn that takes long dining tables or a marquee, a half-circle fire pit sits between two old water tanks, and a wisteria-covered pergola, a giant chess board and a timber slab hut fill out the space. After dark, spotlights pick out the trees and stone walls while low lights edge the hedges. Event types on offer include wedding ceremonies and smaller receptions, cocktail parties, outdoor dining, music and cultural evenings, open-air cinema nights, product launches and creative activations. The inn can arrange catering and event logistics, and is happy to work with suppliers you bring in.
