About The Underground Sydney
The Underground Sydney is the live music room and bar tucked inside the UTS Tower on Broadway in Ultimo, about a ten-minute walk from Central station. It has been running gigs since the early nineties, with past bills that include Silverchair and Peking Duk, and during the university session it doubles as a casual bar serving pizza, loaded fries and cheap schooners. Its profits go back into student programs at UTS. For private events the whole venue is hired exclusively, and it holds up to 600 people. The room is wide and open with natural light from above, its own bar and kitchen, a stage with fixed lighting rigged above it, a screen and projector, and house sound, and the licence allows events to run until 3am. Partial hire for a smaller crowd can be discussed, and neighbouring spaces such as The Loft on Broadway can be added for events of up to 1,200. Extras like LED walls, moving lights, DJ packages and bubble machines are quoted separately. There is no hire fee; each booking instead carries a minimum spend that goes on food and drink. Monday to Thursday bookings start from 4pm with a $3,500 minimum spend, and Friday to Sunday bookings from $5,000, with a four-hour minimum and a 30% deposit. Catering add-ons include platters from $13 per person, barbecue menus from $35 per person and canapé packages from $35 per person, and drinks can run on a standard or premium package, a set bar tab or a cash bar.
