About Menzies Bar & Bistro @ Shell House
Menzies Bar & Bistro is the street-level venue of Shell House, the restored interwar palazzo at 37 Margaret Street in the Sydney CBD. It wraps the corner of Carrington and Margaret Streets and takes its name from the Menzies Hotel that once stood here, with a European bistro feel, a long marble bar, leather banquettes and lamplit tables. Above it, Shell House also runs a dining room, the Clocktower Bar and a rooftop Sky Bar. The room is flexible for groups. The bistro seats up to 40 for full table service, a casual group of up to 20 can gather over bar drinks and snacks, and a cocktail-and-canapé party for up to 70 can take part of the bar. For a bigger celebration the whole of Menzies can be booked exclusively, seating up to 100 guests or holding up to 200 at a canapé party with some seating and plenty of room to stand. The kitchen, led by Culinary Director Joel Bickford, serves shared banquet menus for groups. The $90 per person menu moves from olives, focaccia and salumi through fritto misto and pasta to the fish of the day and bistecca with porcini sauce, finishing with cannoli and gelato; the $120 menu adds dishes such as steak tartare, lobster ravioli, a cheese plate and tiramisu. For exclusive events the team can arrange DJs, music and entertainment, and AV and flowers through its suppliers.

With exclusive use, Menzies seats up to 100 guests or holds up to 200 at a standing canapé party with some seats. Without exclusive use, the bistro seats up to 40 and cocktail parties of up to 70 can be arranged.
What do group menus cost?
The shared banquet menus are $90 and $120 per person. Oysters can be added to the $90 menu for $6.50 per person, dessert for $8 per person, and a cheese plate for $28.
Can you organise entertainment and AV?
Yes. For exclusive events the Shell House team can provide DJs, music and entertainment, and arrange AV and floral styling through its suppliers.
Can I bring a birthday cake?
No, BYO cakes aren't available at Menzies, so it's best to ask the team about a dessert option instead.
Are there service charges on group bookings?
A discretionary gratuity applies: 5% generally and 10% for groups of six or more. A surcharge also applies to card payments.
