7th Day Brewery is a small independent brewery and taproom on Powells Road in Brookvale, launched with crowdfunding from the local community. The bar and brewhouse share a converted warehouse fitted out with recycled timber, cable-spool and wine-barrel tables and retired surf and skate boards, and there is a beer garden outside. It opens Wednesday to Sunday, with a pool table and a large projector screen for sport. There is no charge to book an area, and each function space has its own character. The Alley, with vintage arcade games, foosball, a big TV, a photo booth and a roller door onto the pop-up courtyard, takes 40 to 60 guests. The Boardroom, next to the stage under a wall of old boards, suits 25 to 40, and the two can be joined for up to 100. The Cosy Corner, with mid-century furniture and its own dry bar, and the Show Room under the projector screen each take 25 to 35, or 70 together. The beer garden and courtyard can't be reserved in bad weather. Groups of more than 25 are encouraged to pre-order food from Sale Pepe, the Italian kitchen next door: platters for about ten covering antipasto, arancini, meatballs, wings, pasta and half-metre pizzas. There's no minimum bar spend; the team can run a bar tab and move to pay-as-you-go once it's used up. Bands and DJs play Friday to Sunday nights, and the function manager can organise DJ gear, photo booth hire, styling or security at the client's cost.
