About The Stables at Sages Cottage Farm

The Stables sits on Sages Cottage Farm in Baxter, a heritage-protected property whose story runs back to the 1850s. The farm still works today and is run by Wallara, which uses it for education programs and job pathways for people with disability. The main function space is the barn itself – timber beams, soft lighting and long walnut tables – with an adjoining marquee for extra room. Outside are the original cottage, a rose garden, an avenue of pines, open paddocks and a lake, all used for ceremonies and photos. The barn takes 100 guests for a banquet with room left for a dance floor, or 120 for a cocktail-style event. Festoon lighting runs inside and out, and heaters and blankets are put out on cooler nights. Catering is done in-house, with plated, shared feasting, Texan barbecue and cocktail menus. Each package covers five hours and comes with a Classic drinks selection of wine, beer, an alcohol-removed beer and a pre-mixed spirit, served at the table and on trays. Weddings make up most of the calendar, but the venue also hosts birthdays, baby showers, christenings and corporate days such as conferences, training sessions and brand launches. Parking on site is free, and the venue has accessible toilets, ramps and wide doorways. A coordinator works with you through the planning and an event manager runs the day itself. Pricing

Wedding receptions are sold as five-hour packages that include food and the Classic drinks selection: cocktail $175 per person, shared feasting $185, Texan barbecue $195 and plated $205.

Venue hire is $2,500 and a ceremony package is $800, with a rustic door entrance available for $250. Later-year events attract a small per-person increase set out in the venue's pack, and a $3,000 deposit holds the date.

Food

Every menu starts with canapés on arrival. The plated menu adds an entrée, alternating mains, sides and dessert; the feasting menu brings a grazing station and three shared platters; the Texan barbecue menu serves smoky shared mains with Southern-style sides; and the cocktail menu adds bowls and a larger canapé before dessert.

Vegetarian and vegan options are included, and the kitchen can cook without gluten, dairy or nuts. A children's menu is available for younger guests.

Beverages

Each package includes the Classic drinks selection, covering a sparkling, a white and a red wine, two beers, an alcohol-removed beer and a pre-mixed spirit. A Mornington Peninsula wine upgrade is $30 per person, cocktails on arrival are $16 per person, and a Ring for Bubbles wall can be added for an hour of sparkling service.

Availability

The barn trades as a café by day, so event access starts 60 minutes before your booking with a 30-minute bump-out afterwards. Send an enquiry to check a date or arrange a site visit.
