Melbourne DJ Services provides DJs and MCs for weddings, birthdays, private parties and work functions, and its service area takes in the Mornington Peninsula. The team is based in Melbourne, has played over 700 events, and you deal with the DJ directly instead of going through an agency. Planning starts with your brief: the genres you like, up to 40 must-plays and a list of songs to avoid. From there the DJ paces the night, from quiet background music over drinks and dinner to clear sound for speeches and a busy floor once the room is ready. Sets draw on house, R&B, rock, disco, current chart songs and 80s to 2000s tracks, and fitting requests are taken. The kit is Pioneer CDJs and a mixer in a white booth, with good speakers, party lighting and a wireless microphone. Larger packages bring uplights, 360-degree tubes, haze or smoke where the venue allows, and dry ice for a first dance. An MC from the team can work through your run sheet for introductions, speeches and presentations. The DJ turns up as much as an hour ahead to set up and soundcheck, with no charge for setup or pack-down. Send an enquiry with the date, the Peninsula venue and guest numbers for a quote, and a deposit locks in the date once the package is settled.

What does a DJ booking cost?

How much say do we have over the music?
Plenty. Send genres, as many as 40 must-play songs and any tracks to skip, and the DJ treats that as the brief while reading guests on the night and taking suitable requests.
How is the date secured?
Once you agree on the quote, a $200 deposit holds the date and the balance is paid roughly a week out. A planning questionnaire then locks in the music and the timeline.
