About Married to the Groove

Josh Parish runs Married to the Groove, a wedding DJ business, and its FAQ lists the Mornington Peninsula among the areas covered with no travel surcharge. He is based in Melbourne and has been mixing for over twelve years, after buying his first decks at 18, and these days he plays 70 to 80 weddings each year full time. His own sets lean towards house and disco, moving through pop, R&B and indie as the floor calls for it, with more dance tracks and less pub rock. When Josh is taken, an associate DJ with more than ten years behind them plays with the same booth, speakers and planning steps. Couples are told up front who their DJ is, and that does not change. Every price sits on the website. Josh's five-hour reception set is $3,850, and associate DJs start at $3,300. The bigger packages add MC hosting, neon tubes and a recording of the set, and the top tier brings in ceremony and canape music, moving heads and haze. Each wedding gets a custom booth, a wireless microphone and a PA for 150 guests indoors or 100 outside, with a stainless booth and larger system as an upgrade. Planning includes a music questionnaire about four months ahead and a planning call around six weeks out. A $1,000 deposit holds the date and the rest is due a month before.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a travel charge for a Mornington Peninsula wedding?

No. The FAQ on the business's own site says most Victorian venues, the Mornington Peninsula included, are covered without a travel surcharge. Costs only apply when the distance needs an overnight stay.

What does a wedding cost?

Associate DJ packages begin at $3,300, while Josh charges $3,850 for a five-hour reception set. Package Two costs $4,600 with MC hosting, neon tubes and a recording, and Package One, the full day, is $5,800.

Will Josh play our wedding?

The packages on the pricing page are Josh himself. If his diary is full, you find out straight away which associate DJ has the date, and that DJ is not switched later.

Can the DJ host the reception as well?

Yes. MC duties come with Packages One and Two, or cost $650 added to Package Three, covering run sheet planning, working with the venue and other suppliers, and hosting on the night.

What if the guest list is over 150?

The standard PA suits 150 guests indoors or 100 outside. The stainless booth upgrade includes a bigger system for up to 250, and above that an outside AV company is quoted into the booking.
