About Upstairs @ Royal Saxon
Royal Saxon is an independent, family-owned pub at 545 Church Street, Richmond, with a courtyard, laneway, front bar and dining room downstairs. Upstairs is its dedicated private event floor, reached by its own entrance, and when you book it the whole level belongs to your group. East Richmond station and the 78 tram on Church Street are the easiest ways in, as street parking nearby is limited. The space holds up to 200 guests cocktail-style or about 80 seated, and the layout can be set for standing drinks, a sit-down dinner or a mix of both. It has a private bar, a private bathroom, a dance floor with room for a DJ, and full AV for speeches and presentations. Red curtains, booth seating and lighting across the ceiling give it a nightclub feel after dark, and a dedicated events manager runs the night with you. Food is ordered for 20 or more guests: canapé packages of five, seven or nine pieces at $34, $45 or $56 per person, a two-course set menu at $62 per person (dessert adds $9), or platters, big bites and grazing tables. Drinks packages run two to four hours from $49 per person, with spirit upgrades and cocktails on arrival, or you can open a bar tab with set limits. A 30% deposit of the room's minimum spend secures the date, and the spend is then used on food and drinks.

What do the food packages cost?
Canapé packages are $34 per person for five pieces, $45 for seven and $56 for nine, with pizza bites an extra $7. The set menu is $62 per person for shared entrées and a choice of mains, plus $9 for dessert. All packages need at least 20 guests.

My husband and I went to the Royal Saxon on Thursday night to watch the footy and take advantage of their Thursday Parma Night. We sat out the back in the beer garden and managed to get great seats right in front of the…
