About Rooftop Deck @ The Elgin
The Elgin has been a Hawthorn pub since 1929, when it opened as the Railway Hotel. It sits on Burwood Road close to public transport, with a sports bar and dining area on the ground floor and its function spaces and rooftop on the level above. Day to day the pub serves modern Australian food alongside pub classics and shows plenty of live sport. The Rooftop Deck can be booked for exclusive use, so your group has the whole space to itself. It is set up for all weather, with big windows looking out across the city skyline, festoon lighting, high tables and casual seating, a fully stocked bar and a fireplace for cooler months. As a private event it holds up to 150 guests standing or 90 seated. Smaller groups can instead take one of the rooftop VIP sections or the rooftop marquee, each for up to 40 standing, or the separate Burwood Bar for up to 80. Functions at The Elgin run on consumption rather than fixed packages. You choose drinks from anything the bar stocks and pick food from the full menu, and confirmed numbers are needed before the menu is finalised. There is no room hire fee, but a minimum spend applies, worked out from your group size and the area you book. The team can arrange a walk-through before you commit and aims to reply to enquiries within 48 hours.
