About The Party Room for Kids South Melbourne
The Party Room for Kids is a dedicated children's party venue at 70 Dow Street, South Melbourne. Each booking gets exclusive use of the room, which the team decorates from floor to ceiling in the theme your child chooses. There are more than 40 themes to pick from, and the bigger ones go well beyond balloons. Snow Queen parties have real indoor snowfall, Mermaid parties open through a glowing shell, Superheroes sits under a galaxy-style night sky and Dinosaur Jungle has a 4.5-metre dinosaur above the dining table. The room holds 45 guests in total, with up to 25 children and up to 25 adults, and about 25 seats for grown-ups. Younger children eat at a dedicated kids' dining table, while children aged seven and over can have a buffet with cushion seating. Two costumed entertainers and hosting staff run the program: face painting or tattoos, a magic show, musical games, bubbles, karaoke for older kids and a prize wheel. The party ends with the birthday song, cake cutting, group photos and party bags. Food is ordered from the venue's own kitchen, with a standard kids' menu at $9.95 per child and platters, sandwiches and coffee for adults. Vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten-free options are available, and a commercially made cake can be brought in for a small handling fee. If more than 25 children attend, an extra party host is required at $119 on Saturdays or $149 on Sundays. Extras include party bags from $5 to $9.95 per child, personalised posters at $49.95 and themed plates and cups from $49.

For adults there are gourmet sandwich platters from $49, fruit and cheese platters at $89, hot savoury platters from $59 and unlimited self-serve coffee and tea for $59. Vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten-free choices are offered, including a gluten-free kids' menu at $15 per child.

How many guests can come to a party?
The room takes 45 guests in total, with a maximum of 25 children and 25 adults. Babies under one are not counted, and the venue suggests at least 10 children so the games work well.
What is included in the party package?
Exclusive use of the themed room, two costumed entertainers and hosting staff, face painting or tattoos, a magic show, musical games, bubbles, karaoke where suitable and a prize wheel. Digital invitations, standard plates, cups and cutlery and a kids' dining table are also included. Food, cakes, party bags and personalised posters are extras.
Can we bring our own food or cake?
Outside food is not permitted for health and safety reasons, apart from food for children with severe allergies. A commercially made cake can be brought in for a $29 handling fee, which covers candles, serving and packing the leftovers.
What ages is the venue suited to?
Parties are designed for children aged two to twelve, and first birthdays are also hosted as long as the guest list stays within 45. The kids' dining table suits children six and under, while older children can have a buffet with cushion seating.
How does the deposit and cancellation work?
A deposit of $499 for a 1.5-hour party or $599 for a two-hour party secures the date, and the balance is due in the week before the party. Cancelling more than 28 days out costs $39, between 14 and 28 days $99, between 7 and 14 days the deposit, and within 7 days the full package price.
