About The Local Taphouse
On Carlisle Street in St Kilda East, The Local Taphouse is a craft beer tavern with a European feel, and it was opened in 2008 by two beer enthusiasts. It pours around 20 beers and ciders on tap from a list that changes daily, alongside wines, craft spirits and cocktails, and the kitchen serves pub classics such as steaks, parmas and burgers. There is also a rooftop deck with an open fireplace and greenery. For private events the pub offers four rooms. Wilfred's Room is a vintage lounge with its own bar of four beer taps, a private entrance and bathrooms, and a landscaped terrace, taking 45 for drinks or 18 for dinner. The Bocce Room is a long, timber-panelled space with recycled floorboards, antique mirrors and a 12-metre Italian bocce court that can be set up for a friendly competition; it holds 80 standing or 60 seated. The Louvre Room, lined with handmade timber louvres, can be set as a lounge for 35 or a dinner for 25. The downstairs Main Bar, with leather sofas, an open fire, a stage and 20 taps, takes 180 standing or 120 seated. Groups of 8 to 25 can also book a private dining room with table service. The rooms come with wireless microphones, screens and music connections, and the Main Bar stage has audio-visual gear. Menus are tailored to each event, and if the group wants a particular craft beer or wine the team will try to source it. Weddings are handled by a dedicated event manager who can help organise florists, DJs or a photobooth, with no compulsory vendor list or required drinks package. Pricing is by quote.
