About The Rising Sun Hotel
The Rising Sun Hotel is a family-owned pub at 2 Raglan Street in South Melbourne, established in 1869 and open daily from 11am, with the kitchen serving from midday to 9pm. It works as a bistro, sports bar, alfresco local and live music room, and its events team hosts corporate lunches, networking events, milestone birthdays, racing days and Christmas parties. The Private Function Room on the first floor is the main event space. It seats up to 90 for dinner or holds 120 cocktail style, with its own bar and restrooms, audio-visual equipment at no charge and room for a live band or DJ. On the ground floor, the Private Dining Room seats 18 to 30 and can have TVs switched on for the races or big games. The Outdoor Pod is undercover and heated, with a big screen, and takes about 20, with room to extend for larger groups. None of the spaces charge room hire; each has a minimum spend that depends on the day and date. Groups of 10 to 20 can also book in the bistro. Seated menus run to one, two or three courses and range from pub classics such as parmas, schnitzels and fish and chips through to porterhouse, wagyu rump and eye fillet, with shared entrées, oysters and desserts on the larger menus and vegetarian and gluten-free dishes available. Standing events order canapé platters – calamari, croquettes, koftas, satay skewers, arancini, spring rolls and falafel, plus sliders and tacos for something more filling. Drinks selections are put together with the team to suit the event.
