Birichino is an Italian cucina and pizzeria on Whitehorse Road in Balwyn, run by a team of Italians who keep the cooking simple and ingredient-led. It is fully licensed, with Italian and Australian wines on the list. The restaurant hosts private functions once a group passes 25 guests. Function service runs from midday to 4pm for lunch and from 5pm to 9pm for dinner. The whole restaurant can be reserved for a lunch event on any day except Friday, and for dinner on a Monday. Long tables run down one side of the room under vintage Italian posters, and grazing spreads can be laid out along the bar for a stand-up event. Hosts can choose a seated meal or a stand-up menu, and the kitchen can build a custom menu for special requirements. The set menus start with shared cured meats and fried antipasto such as arancini, croquettes and calamari, then move on to pizza and pasta for every two guests. The higher set menu adds a shared dessert board and coffee to finish. Drinks include Italian beers, spritzes, negronis and an espresso martini alongside the wine list.
