About Oxi Tea Room

Oxi Tea Room is a modern tea house on level one at 158 Victoria Street in Carlton, taking its cues from the tea cultures of Kenya and Taiwan. The focus is whole-leaf oolong and black tea, brewed either as teapresso or by the traditional Chinese hand-brew method, and matched with desserts and savoury plates made in house. The room is dark and calm, with a softly lit mountain mural along one wall. The afternoon tea is not a three-tier stand of scones. It is served as a sequence of small courses, sweet and savoury, written around a theme that changes roughly every four months, with vegetarian swaps on the savoury plates. Each booking includes a welcome drink and a pot of tea, and everyone at the table takes the same experience. Extras include a tea pairing, an alcohol pairing, a mimosa, free-flow sparkling and a cheese and fruit plate. Everything is halal by default, and the kitchen can handle vegetarian, pescatarian, pregnancy-safe and nut-free diets, though the afternoon tea cannot be made without gluten, dairy, soy or animal products. For celebrations there is a private dining space for up to 16 guests, used for birthdays, baby showers, engagements and work gatherings. Groups of up to 12 can use it at no charge for up to two hours, while larger parties, exclusive use, longer stays or outside styling move to a function hire with up to three hours. Outside food, celebration cakes and BYO drinks are not allowed. The venue is wheelchair accessible via the lift, and it is cashless.
