About Rutherford Entertainment
Rutherford Entertainment is a Melbourne music and entertainment agency started by DJ Nick Rutherford and his partner Nicki, run from an office in Port Melbourne. The idea from day one was entertainment fitted to each client rather than a fixed menu, and the business still works that way, with a team of entertainment managers, a production manager and a music producer behind the roster. DJs are the core of the agency. Its DJs are booked to set a relaxed mood during dinner or to keep a packed dance floor going late, and one profiled DJ has played engagement parties, weddings, corporate functions and boat parties. Many events pair a DJ with live players: saxophonists, percussionists and vocalists who perform over the DJ's set, or a combined DJ band. For live music on its own there are acoustic duos, soloists, string players, brass and world-music groups, plus bands covering jazz, rock, pop and big band styles. A band can play cool background jazz through a meal or a full main-stage set for dancing. Beyond music, Rutherford can arrange magicians, feathered showgirls, aerialists, dance acts, butlers to greet guests and custom productions. The agency books for weddings, corporate events and private occasions such as engagement parties, birthdays and bar mitzvahs. Each artist on the site has a booking form asking for the date, start and finish times, venue and guest numbers, and the team comes back with options for the night.
