About MV Melburnian
MV Melburnian is a 40-foot timber motor launch with an Oregon hull, first built in a Melbourne shipyard as a wartime cargo boat. After decades of working life elsewhere she was brought to Melbourne by an enthusiast and fully restored as a charter boat, with a polished timber saloon, leather bench seating and soft furnishings, and a sun deck above. The boat takes private groups of up to 30. Every charter comes with a skipper and one crew member, and the route is planned around your group: upstream on the Yarra past Southgate and Crown towards the botanic gardens and the river banks of Hawthorn and Toorak, downstream through Docklands and the working port, up the Maribyrnong, or across to Williamstown and St Kilda. On board there is a galley kitchen, a restroom, heating and a sound system, and the saloon has audio-visual equipment for presentations. That makes it a common pick for business meetings, client entertaining, product launches and team functions, as well as weddings and smaller family celebrations. Catering comes from a dedicated caterer that works with the boat. Menus run from casual party food and tea sandwiches to canapé packages with five to eight selections, plus grazing boards, cheese and fruit platters, oysters, prawns, glazed ham and sweet canapés. Final numbers are due three working days ahead, dietary needs are handled on request, and bookings are made by phone or through the web enquiry form.
