About Something Blue Band
Something Blue Band is a Melbourne wedding and function band made up of young musicians who also play live gigs around town. The repertoire leans on rhythm and blues, soul, classic rock'n'roll and jazz – songs that pull guests of every age onto the dance floor – and the singers are used to judging the mood and choosing what to play next. The standard line-up is a five-piece: lead vocalist, guitar, keyboards, bass and drums. The six-piece adds a saxophone or trumpet, and larger versions bring in a two-piece horn section, with the band able to expand to ten players in total. Each reception package covers up to four 45-minute sets, the PA system, microphones and other gear, setup and pack-down, and background music between sets. For the ceremony there is a separate package: a vocalist with either a guitarist or a pianist for up to an hour, along with a two-speaker PA, setup at the ceremony spot and a microphone for the celebrant. A battery PA may be available where there is no power, and extra players such as percussion, wind, violin or more guitar can be added. The band is one of a small number in Melbourne that can play a full set of traditional horas for Jewish weddings. Couples can choose every song or name a handful of songs they love to set the style. Because the band is at the venue for close to seven hours including setup, a meal and drinks and a place to take breaks are appreciated.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Something Blue Band cost?
Prices start from $2,495. The final figure depends on the size of the line-up, from a five-piece to a ten-piece, and on extras such as a ceremony package, so contact the band for a quote.
How long does the band play?
Packages cover at least three hours of music, usually arranged as four 45-minute sets. The band works out the set times with you to suit the running order of your reception.
Can we pick the songs?
Yes. You can choose the whole list if you like, but most couples send a short list of songs they love to show the style they want and leave the singers to read the room from there.
Does the band play horas for Jewish weddings?
Yes. The band plays traditional horas, including Hava Nagila and Mazel Tov, and is one of a small number of Melbourne wedding bands that can cover them live.
What does the band need on the night?
The musicians are at the venue for close to seven hours including setup and pack-down, so a meal, drinks and somewhere to rest between sets are appreciated. A table in the main room is not required.
