About Hunter Valley Classic Carriages
Hunter Valley Classic Carriages runs wine tours with a twist from central Pokolbin, opposite Hunter Valley Gardens. Instead of a standard minibus, guests choose how they travel between cellar doors: a horse-drawn carriage, a themed wagon, an open-top Jeep Wrangler, a Mini Cooper S, a 4x4 or, for a classic option, a bus. The horses are a team of Clydesdales and Australian draught horses, and the business puts horse welfare first, planning routes to keep workloads light and running a Clydesdale breeding program. The carriage collection takes in Victorias, Landaus, Broughams, Vis a Vis carriages, Wild West chuck wagons, wagonettes and Cobb and Co stagecoaches. Tours range from one hour to five. Half-day tours of about three hours include one to three wine, cheese and chocolate tastings, and full-day tours of about five hours add a picnic among the vines or a restaurant lunch. Private couples' carriages come with chilled sparkling wine and a cheese platter on board. Horse-drawn tours start from a set collection point, given at booking, so guests arrange their own way there. Vehicle and bus tours collect from accommodation within Pokolbin and drop guests back afterwards. Open carriages and open-top vehicles depend on the weather, and a cancelled trip can be rebooked within three years. Under-18s are welcome on the rides but cannot join the tastings. Weddings are a big part of the business. A wedding carriage booking covers two to three hours, with collection nearby, delivery to the ceremony and time for photographs or a transfer to the reception. Led or ridden wedding horses, pre-wedding photo shoots, hens party wagon and bus tours, and bridal shower carriage rides to high tea are also on offer.

What kinds of tour vehicles are there?

Is transport to the tour included?
For horse-drawn tours you make your own way to the collection point you are given when booking. For Jeep, Mini Cooper, 4x4 and bus tours, you are collected from your accommodation within Pokolbin and returned afterwards.
How many people fit on a wagon tour?
The themed wagon tours are built for larger groups of four to 10 people. Couples' tours use private carriages or vehicles for two.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Carriage and open-top vehicle tours depend on conditions. If a tour has to be cancelled for safety, you can rebook within three years.
Can we hire a carriage for our wedding?
Yes. Wedding carriage hire covers two to three hours, with collection nearby, delivery to the ceremony and the carriage waiting for photos or a transfer to the reception. Wedding horses, Jeeps, Mini Coopers and a black 4x4 are also available.
