About HV Tours

HV Tours, also trading as Hunter Valley Tours, has been driving visitors around the Hunter's cellar doors since 2015. Founder Julie started the business after finding no wheelchair-accessible tour vehicles in the valley, and access is still central to how it runs: the minibus has a hydraulic lift, an automatic step and rails, venues are checked for ramps and lifts, and the team is trained in manual handling and transporting people with disabilities. The shared tours are small, capped at 12 guests on the full-day options, and adults only. Half-day mornings and afternoons cover two cellar doors, a vodka and gin tasting and cheese and chocolate shops. Longer days add a third winery and either a one-course lunch with a drink or lunch at your own cost, and there is a wine, beer and brewery day as well as a shore excursion for cruise passengers docking at Newcastle. Tasting fees are included on these shared days. For celebrations and work groups, the private side makes more sense. Couples can book a day for two, a small bus suits up to six, and the big bus carries groups of 2 to 20 for up to seven hours with the itinerary built around you. There is also an Executive Mercedes-Benz Sprinter for up to 14 with leather recliners, Bluetooth and a fridge stocked with water. Hens and bucks groups are steered to the private Pre-Wedding Celebration Tour, since the shared tours are not set up for them. Pickup is free within 12km of Pokolbin, taking in Lovedale and Cessnock, and a one-off charge applies for Maitland, Singleton and Newcastle. Alcohol is not allowed on the bus; the tasting happens at the stops.

Shared half-day tours start from $140 per person with tasting fees included, the full day with lunch is from $230 per person, and the Pre-Wedding Celebration Tour is $199 per person. Private couples days start at $595, the small bus at $750, the big bus at $950 for 2 to 11 or $1250 for 12 to 20, and the Executive Sprinter from $1400. On private days, tastings and lunch are paid as you go. A 15% non-refundable deposit secures a booking, and cellar door tasting fees where not included run from $5 to $25 per person.

HV Tours runs a wheelchair-accessible minibus with a hydraulic lift, a small bus for up to six, a big bus for groups of up to 20, and an Executive Mercedes-Benz Sprinter seating 14 on leather recliners with Bluetooth, air conditioning and an onboard fridge, with a luggage trailer on request. Shared tours mix your group with other guests, cap numbers at 12 on the full days and start with pickups from 9am, timed the night before. Private bookings give your group the vehicle and driver for up to seven hours, and you either plan the venues yourself or take one of the set itineraries.

Can we book HV Tours for a hens or bucks party?

Yes, but on a private booking. The shared tours are not suitable for hens and bucks groups, so celebrations go on the Pre-Wedding Celebration Tour, run Friday to Sunday from 10am to 4.30pm, or a private bus.

Are the tours wheelchair accessible?

Most of the shared tours are. The minibus has a hydraulic lift, slide-out step and rails, and venues are checked for access. Mention the need for the lift when you book so it can be arranged.

Where do pickups happen?

From your accommodation. Pickup is free within 12km of central Pokolbin, which covers Lovedale and Cessnock. Maitland, Singleton and Newcastle attract a one-off charge per booking, quoted when you book.

Can children come along?

Not on shared tours, which are for guests aged 18 and over. Children can join a private tour by prior arrangement, with NSW child seat rules applying.
