About TexTours
TexTours calls itself the small bus company, and it means it: there is one bus and one driver, Tex, who has spent a long time guiding small groups through Hunter wine country. Tours are capped at 12 guests, because many of the boutique cellar doors he favours will only host small groups, and staff tend to share more about their wines when the group is intimate. The full-day tour visits four cellar doors chosen by Tex, each with a structured group tasting, and includes a seated tasting of cheese, olive oil and chocolate. Tasting fees are covered in the price. One winery can be swapped for a distillery if the group prefers spirits, and the day is paced with time to stroll among the vines rather than rushing from stop to stop. The aim is a relaxed introduction to how wine works, with plenty of laughs along the way. Lunch is not included, so guests can choose something light or a bigger meal depending on their dinner plans. The tour stops at a cafe, pub or brewery where a filling meal runs about $25 to $30. Food and alcohol from home stay off the bus, although a small snack and bottled water are fine. Half-day tours run in the morning from about 10am to 2pm or in the afternoon from about 1pm to 5pm, with minimum numbers. Private charters, full or half day, let a group of up to 12 pick its own vineyards and lunch venue, which suits birthdays, hens weekends and catch-ups with old friends.

Frequently asked questions
How many people can join a TexTours tour?
A maximum of 12. TexTours runs one bus with one driver-guide, and the smaller boutique vineyards it visits often only accept small groups.
Is lunch included in the price?
No. Lunch is at your own cost so you can eat as much or as little as you like. The tour stops at a cafe, pub or brewery where a satisfying meal costs around $25 to $30.
What time are pick-ups?
The first tasting is booked for 10am, so pick-ups in Pokolbin are around 9.45am. Pick-ups from Maitland can be arranged, and the enquiry form asks for your pick-up address.
Can we choose the cellar doors?
On the standard tour, Tex chooses the vineyards and the tasting fees are included. On a private charter your group is free to pick the vineyards and the lunch venue.
Can we bring drinks or an esky on the bus?
No. A small snack and bottled water are fine, but eskies of food and other alcoholic drinks are not allowed on board.
