Magnetic Shots is an event photography business run by principal photographer Helen with Megan, working from East Maitland in the Lower Hunter. Their signature service is the on-the-spot photo magnet: a photographer mingles with guests while an assistant prints the pictures as custom-designed fridge magnets, so everyone leaves with a keepsake. They have been doing this at weddings, parties and corporate functions since 2013. For parties and weddings, packages start from $770 for two hours in the daytime. That covers the photographer and assistant, a magnet border designed around your styling or colours, unlimited prints, wooden props and a digital copy of every image. A fresh batch goes up on the display board about every 20 minutes, and the photographer also picks up the details, speeches, formal groups and atmosphere. Optional extras include a custom prop sign, a gold sequin backdrop and a printed photo book. Corporate work is the other half of the business. Helen covers conferences, award nights, charity galas, fundraisers and community events, with key images retouched on the day for social media and the full set organised into folders and sent by online link or USB. Christmas and end-of-year parties often combine magnets with general event coverage, and headshots can be taken on site with a portable studio. Bookings start with a short discovery call, then a written quote; once it is accepted, a contract and deposit invoice secure the date. Payment by bank transfer is preferred, as card payments can attract bank fees.
