About The Union Hotel

The Union Hotel is a pub on the Pacific Highway in North Sydney that has been pouring drinks since the 1870s. It pairs old-style interiors with a gastropub menu, a sports bar and weekly trivia, and it opens daily from 10am. Victoria Cross metro station is about five minutes away on foot, with North Sydney station and North Sydney Oval also close by. Functions spread across two levels and five spaces. The Rooftop is the biggest, an all-weather area in two connected sections with a private bar, TVs, microphones and a Moroccan-Mediterranean feel, holding 150 standing or 105 seated. The Pacific Room is a darker, plush room with its own bar, bathrooms, street entrance and a small balcony. The West Room has windows on three sides, retro art-deco touches and a private terrace. On the ground floor, The Barn is a semi-private room lined with French doors that can extend into the courtyard for about 90, and The North Room seats 14 for private dinners. Canapé packages run from $36 per person, grazing stations from $30 per person and seated two- or three-course menus from $70 per person, with long-lunch and high-tea packages as well. Drinks packages run two to four hours from $60 per person, or you can set a bar tab. The pub supplies all food and drink apart from a celebration cake. Music comes through the in-house system, DJs may be approved by management, and full bands aren't available. 18th and 21st birthdays need a security guard for the whole event.

Canapé packages are $36 per person for six canapés, $40 per person for five canapés and one substantial item, and $58 per person for six canapés and two substantials, all for at least 20 guests. Grazing and dessert-and-cheese stations are $30 per person and the cold seafood station $45 per person. Seated set menus are $70 per person for two courses or $80 for three. Long-lunch packages cost $78 or $90 per person and high tea $40 per person. Minimum spends apply to each booking and cover food and drinks. A deposit secures the date and final payment is due 14 days before the event.

Food

Canapés include arancini, gyoza, sushi, tandoori chicken skewers, pork belly bites and oysters, with substantial items such as sliders, fish and chips, curry and risotto. Grazing stations cover cured meats, dips and fruit, a cold seafood spread, or desserts and cheese. Seated menus offer entrées like oysters, burrata and beef tataki, mains such as eye fillet, barramundi and lamb shoulder, and plated desserts. Menus mark vegetarian and gluten-free dishes. A celebration cake can be brought in and served for $2.50 per person.

Beverages

Drinks packages are standard at $60, $80 or $100 per person for two, three or four hours, premium at $70, $90 or $110 per person, and deluxe at $80, $110 or $130 per person, each with beers and wines from the relevant list. An RTD upgrade adds $10 per person, and arrival cocktails are $16 each. A bar tab is available, and BYO alcohol is not permitted.

What function spaces does The Union Hotel have?

There are five: The Rooftop for 150 cocktail or 105 seated, The Pacific Room for up to 100 cocktail or 50 seated, The West Room for up to 70 cocktail or 40 seated, The Barn for 50 cocktail or 30 seated (about 90 with the courtyard), and The North Room for 20 cocktail or 14 seated.

How much are function packages at the Union?

Canapé packages are $36, $40 or $58 per person for a minimum of 20 guests. Seated menus are $70 per person for two courses or $80 for three, long-lunch packages are $78 or $90 per person, and grazing stations start at $30 per person. Minimum spends apply to function bookings.

What drinks options are available?

Drinks packages come in standard, premium and deluxe tiers for two, three or four hours, from $60 per person for two hours on the standard list. A bar tab can also be set up, and the minimum spend can be met across food, drinks and cash bar sales on the day. BYO alcohol isn't allowed.

Can we have a DJ or live band?

Full live bands aren't available. A DJ may be allowed if management approves it beforehand, and every room can play your own music through the in-house system. Microphones, TVs and slideshow playback are available.

Does the Union host 18th and 21st birthdays?

Yes, but a security guard must be present for the whole event, charged at $60 an hour for at least four hours, with one guard per 50 guests. Packages that include spirits also require security.
