The Rook is a rooftop bar and restaurant on level 7 of 56–58 York Street in the Sydney CBD, tucked away above the street with an inventive cocktail list, bar food and its own range of liquors. The main dining room sits under an atrium-style roof that retracts, so the space opens to the stars and the skyline on a fine night and closes over when the weather turns. Hiring the whole venue gives you the main bar and the dining room together for up to 120 standing. The Main Dining Room takes 70 standing or 62 seated for dinners or cocktail events, the Bar Area holds 40, and a semi-private section by the bar suits about 20. Private events have wait staff topping up drinks through the night, while semi-private bookings start with a first round poured on arrival and are then served from the bar. There is full disabled access and a designated smoking room at the back. Canapé packages start at $48 per person for six pieces, with eight pieces at $58 and ten at $73. Grazing stations cost $20 to $27 per person, and shared set menus of burgers, salad and fries are $62 per person, or $72 for a premium menu with braised beef cheek and roast chicken. Drinks packages run from $48 per person for two hours up to $98 for four hours of the deluxe list, with arrival cocktails, bubbles and spirits as extras. DJs, live musicians, photobooths and drag performers can be arranged, and you can bring a birthday cake at no charge. Packages are for groups of 20 or more.

If you’ve not been to The Rook on York street do yourself a favour and make a booking. The food was amazing, Cocktails next level and Shaun and the team turned our random walk in for lunch into an evening to remember.
