The Great Northern Hotel is a two-level, heritage-listed pub at 522 Pacific Highway, Chatswood, open seven days until late. Downstairs it has a 400-seat restaurant, three beer gardens (one with a large courtyard under a Chinese elm), a sports bar with TAB, a lounge bar with a pool table, and a bottle shop. Functions are held in three private bars on the first floor. The rooms are styled to suit the heritage building and decorated with pieces from the local community, from hand-painted sporting jerseys to old school and historical photographs. Each room has its own bar, and a balcony overlooking the hotel driveway links them. The Northern Room holds 15 to 110 guests, or up to 170 when joined with the Western Room. The Southern Room also holds 15 to 110, and the Western Room 15 to 40. The whole floor takes up to 300. Guests get upstairs by the main stairs or a lift, and there is street parking nearby. The rooms were designed with birthdays, 21sts, engagements, school parent nights, sporting club socials, work parties and reunions in mind. There is no room hire fee. Instead, each booking has a minimum guest number set by the hotel, and a room charge may apply if your group falls below it. Fingerfood menus cost $38 per person for five items, $44 for six or $49 for seven. Personal noodle boxes, desserts and cheese platters can be added. AV, decorations, security and final pricing are worked out for each event with the functions team, who can also arrange a viewing.
