About The Bells Hotel
The Bells Hotel is a family-run pub at 1 Bourke Street in Woolloomooloo that likes to call itself a country pub in the city. It first opened in 1922, and a pub has stood on this corner since an ale house called Punches in 1868, back when the docks were busy and the navy was based at Garden Island. Today it is a straightforward Aussie local with Australian and imported beers, outdoor seating, big-screen TVs, an old-school jukebox, darts and a pool table. The function room sits behind the main bar and costs nothing to hire. It is furnished with tables in a range of sizes, so it can be arranged for a seated meal, a few small groups or something looser, and a retractable roof opens it up on fine days. You agree the layout with the staff when you book, and the room suits social occasions and work gatherings alike. Drinks, along with freshly made coffee and tea, are ordered at the bar, and the kitchen serves classic pub mains, pizza by the slice, toasties and snacks. To book, phone the pub on (02) 8710 3515 or speak to the staff in person about your date and set-up. The Bells opens at 10am every day and trades until 1am Monday to Saturday and midnight on Sunday, closing only on Christmas Day.
