About Jensens
Jensens is a restaurant and bar in Kareela Village on Freya Street, run by chef and owner Carl Jensen. He opened his first Jensen's at Sylvania in the 1980s, and returned to the name in 2017 with a menu that mixes retro favourites from his earlier restaurants with modern cooking methods: steaks, fresh seafood, pizzas and share plates of antipasti. The main restaurant is split into several areas, including an atrium, booths, a lounge and an indoor terrace. For a private event the space to book is The Cellar, a fully enclosed room set away from the main dining floor and lined with a boutique wine wall. It holds a maximum of 20 guests and comes with its own bar for the group's exclusive use and a waiter looking after the table. Designer furniture and fittings give it a polished feel, and there is a screen with speakers for presentations or speeches, which makes it work for a corporate lunch as well as a milestone birthday or anniversary dinner. The Cellar runs on a minimum spend that changes with the day and meal, and a set private dining menu. Guests get chef's selection canapés on arrival, house-made breads for the table and a two or three course signature menu with five choices at each course. Drinks are charged on consumption, and you can pre-select beers and wines; BYO isn't allowed in The Cellar. A $500 deposit secures the booking, final numbers are due 72 hours ahead, and a 5% service charge is added to the bill.
