Gallon is a bar, eatery and garden at 117 Harris Street in Pyrmont, a short walk from Sydney Fish Market, The Star and ICC Sydney. Walk through the sandstone entrance and you reach a covered beer garden full of plants, set against a set of 19th-century horse stables at the back of the building. The kitchen turns out wood-fired pizzas, hot plates and salads, and the bar leans on cocktails and a wine list built mainly around Australian regions. The venue splits into distinct areas that suit different party sizes. The Stables seats 50 or holds around 70 standing, and runs until 10pm. The Sunroom takes 40 seated or 60 mingling, and can borrow the upper courtyard for another 20 people until 10pm. The upper courtyard on its own suits a small group of up to 20, while the lower courtyard fits 40 seated or 60 standing, though it is only hired exclusively alongside a full Stables booking. Across all areas, Gallon handles functions from about 10 people to 150. Function food is ordered from a canapé and platter list at least a week ahead. The entry package costs $32 per person for a minimum of 30 guests, a more filling selection is $42 per person, and a premium canapé list is $48 per person for 50 or more. Mezze and cheese boards, seafood boats and dessert platters can be added, and sit-down lunch or dinner set menus are available on request. Bookings go through Julian by phone, text or email, and a 15% surcharge applies on public holidays.
