Babylon Rooftop is a restaurant and rooftop bar on level 7 at 182 Pitt Street, above Pitt Street Mall, styled after the Hanging Gardens of ancient Babylon with trailing greenery, arches and a maze of laneways and dining rooms. The kitchen cooks Levantine food with an Australian slant, much of it over wood fire and charcoal on a three-metre mangal grill, served as meze and share plates. Guests reach it by escalator from the mall to level 5 and on to level 7, or by lift from Castlereagh Street after 10pm. Across the venue there is room for 800 guests, split into eleven bookable spaces. The Ishtar is a venue within the venue, with a private marble bar, a large rooftop terrace with skyline views and its own bathrooms, for up to 400 cocktail-style. The Hanging Garden is an undercover rooftop courtyard with heaters, a private bar and waitstaff for 100, and it combines with the timber-floored Sippar (80) to hold 170. The festoon-lit Sky Terrace suits 50. For seated events there are Dining Rooms 1 to 4 (18 to 50 seated), the 18-seat Larsa with a built-in TV, and a combined dining package for 100. Canapé packages are $50, $61 and $76 per person for six, eight and ten pieces, minimum 20 guests, and grazing stations run from $22 to $33 per person. A $650 platter menu feeds 25 in the rooftop spaces. Seated groups choose share-style set menus at $99, $129 or $139 per person. Drinks packages start at $55 per person for two hours, and a bar tab on consumption is also available. A 10% surcharge applies on Sundays and 15% on public holidays.
