Fleur de Flo is a boutique flower shop at 1 Wyndham Street in Alexandria, a short walk from Redfern station. It is run by Florian Pigeon, known as Flo, who studied floristry and horticulture in Paris for five years and then spent three years at a Paris florist focused on hotels and events. After arriving in Sydney in 2010 he worked in Surry Hills before opening his own shop in 2016. His style blends classical French training with Australian native flowers, and he buys most of his stock at the Flemington markets, with about 90 per cent of it grown in Australia. Events are a big part of the work. Flo designs flowers for birthdays, baptisms, anniversaries, graduations and weddings, as well as corporate functions, and scales the design from an intimate dinner to a large venue. Pieces include table centrepieces using unusual flowers and foliage, hanging installations, living floral walls and flower arches, in whatever mood the event calls for, from bright and bold to dark and dramatic or soft and pretty. You can give him a budget to work with creatively or a detailed brief with a theme and colour palette. For larger jobs he works directly with the event planner and venue staff so the flowers sit well with the rest of the styling, and he looks after planning, bump-in, set-up and clean-up.
