About Team Building with Purpose

Team Building with Purpose is a Sydney company that blends team building with corporate volunteering. It was started by Richard Duncan and Claire Turner, who previously wrote and ran Wesley Mission's corporate volunteering program, and its facilitators come from corporate training, coaching and management roles as well as the charity sector. It is headquartered in Sydney and has facilitators in the other major cities, including Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra. Each program is designed with a charity partner. Teams work through educational activities and competitive challenges, then produce something the charity can use: Sparkle Packs of toys for Starlight Children's Foundation, Dignity Bags for Share the Dignity, food hampers for Farm Angels, gift packs for Women's Community Shelters, or kites and messages for Redkite families. Other partners include Clean Up Australia, CPL, Raise and the Te-Kworo Foundation. Half of each event's net profit, and never less than $500 plus GST, goes to the charity involved. The same formats are adapted for conferences, end-of-year events and themed days around topics such as mental health, sustainability and International Women's Day. In-person and hybrid sessions usually run three hours, with shorter one or two-hour versions possible, and online sessions run two hours. The team comes to your office, a conference centre or another venue, and groups can be as small as eight or run into the hundreds. It publishes no prices; quotes depend on the program, duration and headcount. It suits companies that want a team day with a clear purpose and a visible community contribution.

How We Work

Get in touch by phone or the enquiry form and tell them about your team, goals and preferred cause. They tailor a program to your objectives, confirm the charity partner and fit the timing to your day, whether a three-hour in-person session, a hybrid link-up or a two-hour online event. Participants receive guidance beforehand on what to wear. On the day facilitators run the challenges at your venue, then lead a debrief tying the charity's work back to how your team operates, and a follow-up report with participant feedback and recommendations can be supplied afterwards.

How much of the fee goes to charity?

Half of the net profit from every session is passed on to the charity partner behind that program, with a minimum of $500 plus GST on every session. The team also makes items during the session, such as toy packs or care packs, that go to the charity's clients.

How long does a session run?

In-person and hybrid sessions are typically three hours, and shorter one to two-hour versions can be arranged. Online sessions last two hours. A session can also be paired with hands-on volunteering, such as a Clean Up Australia workshop in the morning followed by a clean-up in the afternoon, to fill a full day.

How big can the group be?

Sessions work for groups from about eight or ten people up to several hundred, depending on the activity and venue. Large conferences can be split into simultaneous activities, including across multiple venues, while online sessions suit 10 to 30 people.

Where are events held?

They come to you, running sessions at your office, a hotel, a conference centre or an outdoor site. The company is based in Sydney with facilitators in other major cities, and hybrid formats can link teams sitting in different locations.

How far ahead should we book?

A few weeks' notice is recommended, and more for large or heavily customised programs so the activity can be tailored and logistics arranged. Last-minute requests are taken where the calendar allows.
