About Lyndal Johnston The Travelling Celebrant

Lyndal Johnston works as The Travelling Celebrant, marrying couples in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie as well as the Hunter Valley, and travelling further when asked. She thinks of herself as a wordsmith first. Every ceremony starts with the couple's own story, so the words on the day sound like the two people standing up the front, and the tone can be light and playful without losing what matters. Couples choose how much ceremony they want. Some just need the legal requirements met and the paperwork signed, while others want vows, readings and rituals written in. Lyndal takes care of the legal side and works through the wording with you ahead of the day. Her work also covers commitment ceremonies, vow renewals, naming days for babies and adults, and memorials and life celebrations, and she welcomes LGBTQI couples. The pop-up wedding is built for couples marrying at home, in a garden or on a property. Lyndal brings the setting as well as the ceremony: up to 28 chairs dressed with sashes, rugs and aisle runners, arbours hung with silk flowers, parasols and clear umbrellas, plus a welcome sign made to order. Chairs and sand don't mix, so for a Newcastle beach wedding she suggests a stretch of grass close to the water instead. Drone photography and a live feed of the ceremony can be added at extra cost if the weather allows. To check a date, send your names, the wedding date and the location through her contact form or call Lyndal.

Service Details

Each ceremony is written for the couple, whether that's a brief legal-only service or a full ceremony with your story, your vows and rituals of your choosing. Lyndal looks after the legal paperwork and agrees the wording with you before the day. Pop-up weddings bring rugs and aisle runners, dressed chairs, arbours and silk flowers, parasols and clear umbrellas, and a made-to-order welcome sign, and drone photos or live footage can be booked for an extra fee.

Frequently asked questions

Does Lyndal marry couples in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie?

Yes. She works across Newcastle and the Hunter Valley and travels beyond them, so give her your ceremony location when you get in touch. Pop-up prices change once travel goes past 100 km.

Can we keep the ceremony to the legal minimum?

Yes. Lyndal offers everything from a short legal-only ceremony to a fully written one, so couples who only want the essentials signed and witnessed can book exactly that.

Can we have a pop-up wedding at a Newcastle beach?

Chairs sink into sand, so the setup doesn't sit on the beach itself. Lyndal recommends a grassy patch right beside the beach, which gives the chairs and arbour firm footing.

What does the pop-up wedding setting include?

The base package pairs the celebrant with an arbour and a rug. You can then add up to 28 dressed chairs, extra arbours, silk flowers, clear umbrellas and parasols, aisle runners and a welcome sign made to order.

Does she run ceremonies other than weddings?

Yes. Lyndal also leads vow renewals and commitment ceremonies, naming days for children and grown-ups, and life celebrations and memorials, and LGBTQI couples are welcome.
