About Colour Theory
This five-piece covers band started life around 2007 at a charity event in Newcastle and has played weddings and functions ever since. Singers Ryan and India front the group, with Brad on drums, Jake on bass and handling the bookings, and Timmy completing the line-up. It belongs to HITSRIGHT, a Newcastle collective of bands that share the same core musicians, and couples talk to the band directly rather than through an agency. Local rooms are familiar territory. The band lists Harbourview, where the dance floor sat against floor-to-ceiling windows over the Newcastle foreshore, and Merewether Surfhouse above Merewether Beach among the venues it has enjoyed most. It also travels along the NSW coast and out to Hunter Valley vineyards. The repertoire runs from sixties classics through the noughties to recent chart songs, picked to fill the floor across the generations, with softer acoustic covers for guest arrivals and canapés. Most bookings are four 45-minute sets, though a different amount of music can be priced. Ask for a first-dance song and the band will learn it and give it their own arrangement. Between sets, curated playlists keep things moving, or you can connect a phone or share a Spotify playlist. Each booking comes with the band's own Allen & Heath mixer, RCF main speakers and stage lighting, which copes with a crowd of 1,000, and Scion Audio from Newcastle is brought in for bigger crowds. The band sets up and sound checks before guests arrive without charging for that time, holds $20 million in public liability cover and quotes each event on its date, length and location.

Frequently asked questions
Which Newcastle venues has Colour Theory played?
Among its favourites the band names Harbourview, overlooking the Newcastle foreshore, and Merewether Surfhouse beside Merewether Beach, and it will share what it knows about other local venues.
Will the band travel to Lake Macquarie?
Yes. Colour Theory is based in Newcastle and will travel up and down the NSW coast for weddings and functions, so Lake Macquarie venues are well within range.
What length of performance is standard?
Most couples book four sets of 45 minutes. If your night needs more or less live music, the band will put together a quote for that instead.
Do we need to hire a separate sound system?
No. The band brings an Allen & Heath desk, RCF front-of-house speakers and its own lighting for up to 1,000 guests, and works with Newcastle's Scion Audio for larger events.
Are we charged for the band's set-up time?
No. The musicians prefer to set up and test the sound ahead of your guests, but billing only starts with the first set, so arriving early costs you nothing extra.
