About It's Your Day Ceremonies
It's Your Day Ceremonies is the celebrant business of Ken Hatherley, an authorised marriage celebrant who has been conducting ceremonies since 2009. He lives on the Mornington Peninsula with his wife Barbie, and has been married himself since 1983. Ken aims for ceremonies that feel relaxed, with a light touch of humour that brings guests into the moment. Each one is tailored to the couple, whether it takes place at a reception venue, a winery, a beach, a park, a chapel or the backyard. A traditional ceremony runs for about 20 minutes. Couples who only want the legal essentials can be married in around 10 minutes, while personal vows, readings, poems or guest involvement can stretch it to roughly half an hour. The service starts with a free consultation, including a home visit. Ken supplies sample ceremonies, vows and readings, a checklist for the legal documents, a rehearsal if you'd like one, a PA system and a hand-scripted certificate presented on the day. He also conducts same-sex weddings, vow renewals and commitment ceremonies. Send an enquiry to book a first chat.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a wedding ceremony take?
A traditional ceremony is about 20 minutes. A legals-only service can be done in around 10 minutes, and a more personal ceremony with your own vows and readings runs about 30 minutes including the signing.
Is the first meeting free?
Yes. Ken offers a no-obligation consultation, and he will come to your home for it at no cost.
Do we need a rehearsal?
It's optional, but Ken recommends one about one or two weeks before the day. It settles the bridal party, the order of the walk down the aisle and where everyone stands.
What paperwork do we need?
Your celebrant needs the Notice of Intended Marriage at least one month and one day before the wedding. You'll need original birth certificates or passports, plus divorce or death certificates if either of you was married before.
Does Ken supply a sound system?
Yes, a PA system is available for the ceremony. He can also share thoughts on ceremony music and the seating layout.
