About Melbourne Vintage Kombi Hire
Melbourne Vintage Kombi Hire runs a small fleet of restored split-screen Volkswagen Kombis, each driven by its own chauffeur. Minty is a 1963 Kombi in cream and pale mint green, rebuilt from top to bottom and fitted with a fresh engine. Eleanor dates from 1958 and wears cream and sage green; she spent decades in England before being restored and brought back to Melbourne. Audrey, the third van, is finished in her original cream and light grey. The cream interiors with black beading are chosen with wedding photographers in mind, and every safari window, front ones included, pops open for shots taken through the front of the van. Each Kombi seats the chauffeur and eight passengers, so a whole bridal party can ride together. Evaporative air-conditioning, cushions, water and mints come on board, and couples can play their own music through Bluetooth speakers. Vintage suitcases and 'just married' bunting are available on request. Weddings are the main work, but the vans also take students to school formals, families to milestone birthdays and anniversary dinners, kids on party outings with seatbelts for everyone, and staff on corporate days and team outings, with two Kombis carrying up to 16 people. A Kombi can also stay on at the reception as a photo booth. The team sets up an illuminated sign and props, takes Polaroids of guests inside and around the van, and collects them in a book of handwritten messages for the couple. Minty and Eleanor are booked for at least three hours, and prices are quoted on request.

Frequently asked questions
How many people fit in one Kombi?
Each Kombi seats nine including the chauffeur, so eight passengers can travel together. Booking two Kombis moves up to 16 people at once.
Is there a minimum hire time?
Yes. Minty and Eleanor have a minimum rental of three hours, which allows for the trip out to pick up and the return afterwards.
Can we play our own music?
Yes. The Kombis have an adapter and Bluetooth speakers so you can play your own playlist on the way, or the team can supply the music.
How does the Kombi photo booth work?
The van is set up with an illuminated light sign and props, and the team helps guests take Polaroids inside and outside it. Guests add the prints and a message to a photo book that the couple keeps.
Do they do events other than weddings?
Yes. The Kombis are booked for school formals, special birthdays, kids' birthday outings, anniversary dinners, proposals and corporate or team-building days.
