About The Palace Hotel
The Palace Hotel is an independent, family-run pub at 505 City Road, South Melbourne, part of its neighbourhood since 1874. It is known for log fires, a range of beers that includes English ales and Guinness, live music, a heated beer garden where dogs are welcome, and hearty pub food. The pub hosts meetings, milestone celebrations and private dinners, and the function rooms come at no charge, with a minimum spend applying instead. The whole upstairs level takes 80 people with its own private bar, joining the Long Room and Balcony Room into one open-plan space, and you can play your own music from an iPad or bring in a DJ. On its own, the Long Room holds 14 to 30, seating 26 for a private dinner by the log fires, with audio-visual gear for presentations. The upstairs bar area suits about 20 around tall tables, and the Balcony Room takes 12 to 25 in boardroom, classroom or standing layouts with video conferencing. There is no wheelchair access upstairs. Downstairs, the Dining Room takes 85 with flexible tables and a large screen, the Potting Shed is a half-covered courtyard off the dining room for 25, and the heated beer garden holds 80 at large tables and booths. Function food centres on canapés ordered by the piece: party pies, sausage rolls, fried haloumi, spring rolls and samosas, bruschetta, sushi, duck pancakes and rice paper rolls, plus hot bites like chicken tenders, tempura prawns, wings, arancini and beef or pulled pork sliders. Bowls of chips or wedges and ploughman's boards for about 15 add something to share, and dietary options are marked on the menu. A cake from home is welcome, and your group handles the cutting and serving.
