About The Lounge @ Temperance Hotel
The Temperance Hotel has been a pub on Chapel Street in South Yarra since 1868. Downstairs it runs a busy front bar, cosy booths, a dining area facing the street and a beer garden out the back, and it hosts trivia, live sport and weekly food nights. Upstairs is The Lounge, the pub's private function room. The Lounge is decked out in red velvet with chrome and brass details, floor-to-ceiling drapes and a mirrored bar that nods to the old Spiegeltent style. It holds up to 100 guests for a cocktail party, and because it has its own bar, a group can keep the drinks flowing without heading downstairs. It works well for birthdays, engagements, hens parties and work events. If The Lounge is too big, the pub also offers a semi-private booth bar, a curtained dining room for 14 and the beer garden, and the whole venue can be hired for up to 500 subject to a minimum spend. Food comes from the pub kitchen. Canapé packages run from six to ten pieces per guest for groups of 20 or more, with options such as sliders, arancini, tempura prawns and mini pies, plus desserts like brownies and macarons. Seated groups can take a two- or three-course dining package. Drinks can be covered by a standard, premium or non-alcoholic package for two to four hours, or by a capped bar tab. Menu choices and dietary needs are confirmed two weeks out, and the venue's events sales manager handles bookings. Trams on Chapel Street and Toorak Road and South Yarra station are close by.

Canapés are $38 per person for six pieces, $48 for eight and $56 for ten, with a minimum of 20 guests. A two-course dining package is $52 per person and three courses are $62, for at least 12 guests.
