About Main Hall @ Bells Hotel
Bells Hotel is an independently owned pub on the corner of Moray and Coventry streets in South Melbourne, in a building that dates to 1874 and takes its name from publican Annie Bell, who ran it from 1935. Today it combines a ground-floor pub with sports bars and a restaurant, and upstairs a set of event spaces including a rooftop bar, the Hennessy Room and Lane, the Lady Kaye garden and the Main Hall. The Main Hall is the pub's flagship function space: a contemporary loft-style hall on the roof with a retractable roof and wide views of the city skyline. Guests arrive through a private laneway entrance and lift, so the hall can run as a self-contained venue. The function pack lists it at 250 to 300 for a cocktail event and 150 seated, while the website gives 200 standing and 160 seated. The black, grey and white fit-out is easy to style, and the hall has a private bar, audio-visual equipment and space for a DJ. It suits weddings, gala dinners, presentation nights, Christmas parties and big birthdays, and the neighbouring Hennessy Lane can be added for extra room. Catering is all done in house.
