About BattleKart Melbourne

BattleKart Melbourne mixes go-karting with gaming inside a 4,000 m² building at 50 McArthur St, West Footscray. You drive a real electric kart around a 2,000 m² floor, but there are no tyre walls or fixed circuit: ceiling-mounted projectors paint the track, bonus squares and hazards onto the ground, and sensors in each kart react to them. Grab a bonus and a rocket loads onto your dashboard; press the yellow button at the right moment and the kart ahead slows while you slip past. No VR headset is involved, and the anti-collision system means no helmet either – you simply buckle the seatbelt. A game runs for 15 minutes, with about two and a half of those spent boarding and returning to the pits, and the rest split into rounds across the modes on offer: BattleRace, BattleSnake, BattleColor, BattleFoot, BattleVirus and BattlePool. Each game holds two to ten players, and smaller groups may share the floor with other bookings unless they fill it. The format suits birthdays, bucks and hens parties, family outings and work teams, and the venue has a corporate events team for team days and staff outings. Pricing is per player, with the first game at $65 and each extra game cheaper. Drivers need to be at least 145 cm tall, and there is no minimum age. Walk-ins aren't taken, so book online ahead, particularly for Friday nights, weekends and school holidays. Spectators can watch from the central snack bar, payment is card only, parking is free on site, and West Footscray and Tottenham stations are both nearby. Wear casual clothes, as the karts kick up a little dust.

Frequently asked questions

How much does BattleKart Melbourne cost?

Prices are per player: $65 for one 15-minute game, $60 for a second and $55 for each one after that. There is no charge for a helmet or balaclava, as neither is needed, and gift cards can be bought online.

Is there an age or height limit?

There is no minimum age, but every driver must be at least 145 cm tall to reach the controls safely, and staff may measure players without shoes. The karts are single-seaters, so children can't ride along with a parent.

How many people can play together?

Each game takes two to ten players. Groups smaller than that can be joined by other bookings in the same slot. For larger corporate groups the venue can run a championship format with an overall ranking across several games.

How long is each game?

Each one runs 15 minutes, of which about two and a half go on boarding and leaving the pits. The rest is split into rounds of different modes, and if the same players book two games in a row they skip the pit stop and get a bonus race round instead.

What should we wear, and is there food on site?

Come in casual clothes you don't mind getting dusty, tie back long hair and avoid scarves or loose layers. A central snack bar with seating overlooks the track, lockers are free, and payment is by card only as no cash is held on site.
