About Rosa's Traditional Italian Cooking
Rosa's Traditional Italian Cooking is run by Anna Rosa, who comes from Campania and started cooking Italian food at the age of nine. She teaches from her own kitchen on Ambrose Treacy Drive in Bundoora, where long steel benches are set up for small groups, and the tone is relaxed: plenty of chat, stories from her childhood in Italy and a lot of flour on the aprons. Every class is fully hands-on and kept to between 6 and 12 people so everyone gets close attention. The calendar changes from month to month, with menus such as pappardelle with a traditional ragù and arancini, homemade fettuccine with meatballs, ricotta and spinach ravioli with Napoli sauce, and Bolognese lasagne, often paired with a sweet like amaretti, crostoli or Italian doughnuts. There are dedicated dessert sessions too, covering cannoli, amaretti and ricotta crostata. Once the cooking is done, the group sits down to eat together over wine or a soft drink, and everyone heads home with some of the handmade food. Friends and family can book a class as a group, and larger groups are asked to contact Anna Rosa directly to set up their own session, including requests for a particular dish. That makes it a warm choice for a milestone birthday or a family get-together that wants to do more than eat out. School holiday classes for children cover fettuccine, gnocchi or pizza. Anna Rosa will try to work around dietary needs when told in advance, but the kitchen cannot promise a gluten-free or nut-free environment.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a class at Rosa's?
Scheduled classes are listed at $195 a person, and prices on the site are per person. Large groups can contact Anna Rosa to arrange a session of their own.
How many people are in each class?
Classes are kept small, with 6 to 12 students, so each person gets proper instruction. A scheduled class goes ahead once five places are filled, or eight for the salami and sausage classes.
Do we eat what we cook?
Yes. After the cooking the group sits down and shares the meal over wine or a soft drink, and each person leaves with a portion of the pasta or sweets they made.
Can you cater for allergies and dietary needs?
Anna Rosa tries to accommodate dietary requirements where she can, so get in touch before booking. Some classes may not suit certain allergies, and a gluten-free or nut-free environment cannot be guaranteed.
What happens if we need to cancel?
Classes are non-refundable, but with at least one week of notice you receive a gift voucher for another date, and you can send a friend or family member in your place. Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes early for the safety run-through.
