About Cooking with Lola
Cooking with Lola is a cooking school led by chef Lola Migliore, who grew up in Buenos Aires in a household of Italian and Spanish heritage and trained as a musician before moving into food. Her kitchen is on the ground floor of Mercato Centrale at 546 Collins Street, and classes lean into the flavours of Spain and Latin America with music, a little Spanish language and a lot of sharing. Private groups can choose from several menus. The paella class covers a traditional paella made from scratch, a jug of sangria and churros for dessert, while the tapas class works through Spanish small plates, pintxos and a squid ink paella. There are also Peruvian, Argentinian street food and Mexican menus; the Argentinian one features chimichurri, choripán, a veal schnitzel sandwich and chocotorta and is mostly meat, so it cannot be adapted for vegans, vegetarians or pescatarians. Each class runs for about three hours, and everyone sits down at the end to eat what they cooked. The group format works for birthdays, Christmas parties, client entertaining and team days, and nobody needs to know their way around a kitchen. Ingredients, utensils and drinks are covered, and groups of more than 12 can ask about dates outside the public calendar. Families can also book the kids class, held on the last Saturday of each month for ages 5 to 15, where young cooks make tacos and guacamole with staff who hold working with children checks. Lola also caters paella for events elsewhere if the group would rather stay put.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a private group class cost?
Private group classes are $190 a person. That price applies to the paella and churros class and to the tapas, Peruvian, Argentinian and Mexican menus, and includes flowing sangria, drinks, materials and utensils.
How long does a class run and what do we eat?
Classes take about three hours. The group cooks the menu together, then sits down to share the dishes as a meal, with sangria and non-alcoholic drinks served throughout and tips from the chef to take home.
Can you cater for dietary requirements?
Allergies and intolerances should be noted when booking or sent by email. The Argentinian street food class is largely meat based, so it is not suitable for vegans, vegetarians or pescatarians.
Do you run cooking classes for kids?
Yes. A kids class runs on the last Saturday of the month from 10am to 11:30am for ages 5 to 15, at $70 a child, making tacos with handmade guacamole and fresh juice. Staff hold working with children checks.
Where are the classes held?
Classes are held in Lola's kitchen on the ground floor of Mercato Centrale at 546 Collins Street in the Melbourne CBD. Public classes need minimum numbers, and if they are not met the class is moved or a gift voucher is offered.
