About Otao Kitchen
Otao Kitchen runs practical cooking classes from 393 Victoria Street, Abbotsford, founded by chef Ha Nguyen and named after the Vietnamese kitchen god. It runs two licensed studios, and its chefs teach more than 20 cuisines: Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Indian, Indonesian and Malaysian on the Asian side, plus Mexican, Spanish, Italian, Greek, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Native Australian menus. Pizza and pasta parties and a dumpling-making class round out the list. No experience is needed, and you go home with the recipes. Classes are fully practical. Guests cook in pairs at shared stations, working through a complete multi-course menu over two to three hours before everyone sits down to eat it together. Aprons, ingredients and equipment are supplied, and adults are poured around two to three glasses of wine during and after the class. Halal, vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free menus can be arranged with notice, and the studios have facilities for guests with disabilities. For groups, Otao hosts roughly 60 to 80 guests across its two studios and runs team formats such as a MasterChef-style cooking competition, a relaxed shared-cooking social event, work Christmas parties and hens and bucks cooking parties. A guided walk through the Victoria Street grocers and produce shops can be added before you cook. Private kids' birthday parties are available too, for young cooks aged 10 to 16. Trams run along Victoria Street, North Richmond Station is nearby, and street parking is metered. Closed-toe, non-slip shoes are a must.

Great cooking school. I enjoyed the class. A nice sociable group and a friendly, chatty, informative chef to instruct and guide through the process.
