About Catering By Chefs
Catering By Chefs has been feeding Melbourne parties since 1995. Owner and executive chef Phil Azzi takes every enquiry himself, writes each menu and oversees the event on the day, then follows up afterwards to see how it went. His team of qualified chefs, waiters and supervisors works from a base in Hampton. The cooking leans contemporary, with Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Asian touches. Cocktail events pair cold canapés with hot ones finished by the chef, carried around the room by uniformed staff, with classic, gourmet and vegetarian selections. Beyond canapés there are grazing tables, platters and boxes, gourmet barbecues, seafood spreads, buffets, sandwiches, high tea menus and plated sit-down meals. Vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free and gluten-friendly options run across the range, though the kitchen handles common allergens, so coeliac guests should talk to Phil first. A large share of bookings are at private homes, backyards and gardens, and the team is used to working in a domestic kitchen and leaving it tidy. They also cater function venues, rooftops and offices. As a planning guide, allow eight to ten pieces of finger food each for a two-hour cocktail party and ten to twelve for longer events or anything running over dinner. Typical events include weddings, engagement parties, milestone birthdays, baby showers, christenings, work Christmas functions and corporate events for 20 to 300 people. For groups under 30, a self-catering option supplies cold food in grazing boxes and hot items on oven-ready trays, delivered or collected.

How much does Catering By Chefs charge for a cocktail party?
Cocktail and finger food packages run from $35 plus GST per person (about $39) for six to eight items up to $60 plus GST for a ten to twelve item premium selection, with a 30-guest minimum.
Who will we deal with when we book?
Phil Azzi, the owner and executive chef, handles every enquiry, designs the menu and oversees the event himself. He can be reached Monday to Friday, 9 am to 7 pm.
How many canapés should we order per guest?
For a cocktail party running roughly two to two-and-a-half hours, plan on eight to ten pieces each. Longer events, or ones running over dinner time, need ten to twelve pieces per guest.
Can Catering By Chefs cater a party at our home?
Yes. Many of their events are at private homes, backyards and gardens. The team works within a domestic kitchen, serves your guests and leaves the space tidy afterwards.
Do they cater for vegan and gluten-free guests?
